Andscape at the Olympics is an ongoing series exploring the Black athletes and culture around the 2024 Paris Games.

PARIS – Welcome to Andscape at the Olympics, a video series in which Andscape columnist William C. Rhoden, senior NBA writer Marc J. Spears and Andscape/ESPN commentator Ari Chambers will discuss the key topics about Black athletes and culture at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In a special episode, Rhoden is joined by award-winning novelist and Paris resident Jake Lamar to talk about renowned writer James Baldwin on what would have been his 100th birthday. Baldwin, who died in 1987, was born in Harlem, New York, on Aug. 2, 1924.

Lamar talks about Baldwin’s history and matriculation to Paris, how the famous writer followed in the footsteps of his idol, author Richard Wright, the complicated relationship between Wright and Baldwin, and more.
