Donald Trump Still Thinks He Can Outdo Barack Vows To Replace ObamaCare
On Christmas Day, former President Donald Trump jumped on his Truth Social app, promising to cancel ObamaCare.
Trump wants to replace the Affordable Care Act, signed by Barack Obama in 2010, with his own “much better” alternative program, pushing – again – to cancel the popular health care option used by millions of Americans. “Obamacare is too expensive, and otherwise, not good healthcare,” Trump said. “I will come up with a much better and less expensive alternative! People will be happy, not sad!”
Sixty percent of Americans now favor the law that gives consumers premium tax credits to lower insurance costs for households that fall between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level. Once a popular target for GOP voters and officials alike, they feel the program now is for the betterment of Americans. Republicans have vaguely given up on the issue after several attempts to “repeal and replace” efforts fell short. During Trump’s tenure, the Congressional Budget Office found repealing the law could potentially cancel healthcare for almost 25 million people.
The only GOP leader with his eye still on ObamaCare is Trump. A few GOP lawmakers support Trump but doubt he will come up with a better option. Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), ranking Republican on the Senate Health Committee, said he doesn’t think it will happen with the state of Congress today. “It’s a narrowly divided Congress. It’s unlikely to happen,” he said.
In November 2023, the indicted presidential candidate rehashed his criticism of the plan but backtracked after the media pressed on what his alternative option was, saying he doesn’t “want to terminate Obamacare, I want to REPLACE IT with MUCH BETTER HEALTHCARE.”
“Getting much better Healthcare than Obamacare for the American people will be a priority of the Trump Administration. It is not a matter of cost. It is a matter of HEALTH,” he wrote on Truth Social.
“America will have one of the best Healthcare Plans anywhere in the world. Right now, it has one of the WORST!”
