Whoopi Goldberg Wants To Be The New ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Host, ‘It Would Be Lots Of Fun’
Whoopi Goldberg is looking to return to the game show circuit now that Pat Sajak has announced his retirement from Wheel of Fortune.
She made the reveal when Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings appeared on The View on June 13. When Jennings was asked about Sajak’s recent retirement announcement and who should replace the veteran game show host, Goldberg, 67, tossed her hat into the ring, as noted by Deadline.
“I want that job,” Goldberg declared.
Jennings suggested “an envelope that says what to do when” Sajak leaves Wheel of Fortune following Jeopardy’s “own succession crisis” when Jennings was among a group of guest hosts after the passing of the show’s original host Alex Trebek. Jennings was eventually selected as the show’s official host after stars like Levar Burton expressed their hope to secure the hosting gig.
Joy Behar repeated Goldberg’s desire to get the hosting job, which the Sister Act performer confirmed saying it would be “lots of fun.”
“I want that job. I think it would be lots of fun,” she said
Goldberg’s interest in replacing Pat Sajak came one day after the longtime host announced his retirement after 41 seasons as the Wheel of Fortune host.
“Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last,” Sajak tweeted. “It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!”

The famed game show host will continue to serve in a behind-the-scenes consultant role on the show for the next three years, People reports. As for Goldberg’s desire to replace him, it wouldn’t be her first time on a game show. She was a producer and sat in the center square on the reboot of the “Hollywood Squares” game show from 1998 to 2004.
