Our monthly series looks at the top releases from the best brands in athletic footwear. Whether you’re an avid sneakerhead or just looking for the perfect pair to complement your style, navigating the vast world of sneakers can be overwhelming. From understanding where to buy to decoding the latest trends, consider this your road map to finding the perfect pair.
November is a time to gather with friends and family and say thanks for the things we have. At those get-togethers, we often reunite with people we haven’t seen in years, our favorite cousins, and new friends. The releases for this month have decided to follow that trend with Jordan Brand acting as our favorite cousin that we love to hang out with, Amine and Salehe Bembury serving as the new friends to celebrate with, and Brain Dead and Wu-Tang Clan as the family we haven’t seen in years.
Air Jordan 14 Retro “Black Toe”

The Air Jordan 14 is the last model Michael Jordan wore during his run with the Chicago Bulls. The “Black Toe” colorway never made it to the feet of MJ during his time in Chicago. However, thanks to the “Last Shot,” the Jordan 14 became a must-have and an integral part of Jordan sneaker lore. Now, back for the first time since 2014, the “Black Toe” looks to get as close as possible to the 1998 original. While premium materials are gone, the craftsmanship is still top shelf. A tumbled white leather covers the upper, making way for a synthetic black suede on the toe box. The Ferrari-inspired Jumpman logo on the shoe’s lateral side helps complete the shoe’s sports car-inspired look. We can expect the “Black Toe” to make waves off the court like this original did in 1998.

Brain Dead x Converse Chuck 70

Los Angeles-based brand Brain Dead has always been about finding new and innovative ways to disrupt the cultural landscape while allowing creatives from different areas and perspectives to truly express themselves. There’s no better example of this than Brain Dead deciding to re-release their Converse Chuck 70 collab.
Initially arriving on the scene in 2018, the Chuck 70 was a mashup of various prints from Brain Dead. The 2024 version is no different, with camo, zebra, giraffe, and American Flag prints comprising the shoe’s upper. The white midsole features some of Brain Dead’s taglines, while the shoe’s insoles represent both brands.

Salehe Bembury x New Balance 530 “Bamboo”

Salehe Bembury is undoubtedly one of the busiest individuals in the sneaker game today. The recently appointed creative director of Puma Basketball has already had a busy year. His Crocs release changed how many people view Crocs as a brand, and he is now preparing for a release with New Balance.
Bembury uses the 530 model as his canvas, covering the mesh upper in neon green, which immediately evokes thoughts of a construction worker’s safety vest. Joining the upper is a subdued peach midsole sitting on top of a vibrant purple and green outsole. Bembury’s trademark fingerprint design element is found in the New Balance “N” on each shoe.

New Balance 740 “Benson Tech” by Amine

High school is often considered a formative time for many people as they start to gain a sense of what they enjoy while still having the luxury of being carefree. Such is the case for Aminé, who spent a lot of his time in high school, part of the radio program at Portland, Oregon’s Benson Polytechnic High School, where his music career would begin.
Aminé takes the 740 silhouette and dresses it in orange mesh with blue overlays on the upper, perfectly complimented by a blue midsole that gives way to a solid orange outsole. This edition of the 740 features rope laces in place of traditional laces, making it perfect for adjusting the shoe’s feel and fit while enjoying Portland’s great outdoors. Metallic hits on the shoe’s heel tie the package together. Making sure every part of this collab is unique, the 740s come in a Macbook-inspired shoebox with stickers to further represent Aminé’s time at Benson Tech.

Nike Dunk High “Wu-Tang”

We featured these back in September, and after a few pump fakes, they’re finally getting a proper full-scale release.
Wu-Tang’s iconic yellow and black colors are the star of the show. Covering the Dunk High’s upper in black and yellow immediately invokes thoughts of the group’s “Killa Beez” moniker. A white midsole serves as a perfect counterpoint to the black and yellow used throughout. Wu-Tang’s trademark “W” logo is featured on both the tongue and lateral side of the shoe, completing the package.

Retail: $150
Air Jordan 9 Retro “Olive”

His Airness never wore the Air Jordan 9 on the court, which robbed the model of some of the mystique owned by other shoes in his signature series. But what it lacks in championships, the “Olive” version more than makes up for with style. The green-hued nubuck, black leather, red accents and boot-like looks are a departure from the usual appearance of a basketball sneaker, making it more versatile than most of the line combined. Respectfully.

adidas Gazelle OG x CLOT by Edison Chen

Edison Chen’s CLOT brand has wasted no time making a name for itself with its adidas collaborations. Once a premier Nike collaborator, CLOT has made the most of its time with the Three Stripes by releasing almost a dozen different takes on adidas’s classic models. Their latest is a reimagining of the Gazelle OG.
CLOT uses the soccer cleat version of the Gazelle upper, which offers a slightly different look and feel than the more commonly seen Gazelle model. Using a blend of leather, suede, and synthetics, CLOT crafts a unique shoe with subtle but perfectly executed design notes, such as dressing the Three Stripes logo in a beaded pattern. With both navy and off-white pairs set to hit shelves this month, this shoe is subtle enough to wear on casual Fridays but eye-catching for a night out.

Curry 12 “Gravity” by Curry Brand

After delivering Team USA another gold medal at the Paris Olympics and becoming France’s public enemy number one, Stephen Curry’s eponymous brand with Under Armour looks to continue its momentum into the NBA season with the Curry 12. Dressed in a primarily white upper, this colorway of the Curry 12 features a dark blue pattern on the midsole and heel clip with hints of silver to mimic that of stars shining bright in a clear night sky.

Air Jordan 3 Retro “Black Cement”

Ask any sneakerhead what they believe to be the greatest sneaker of all time, and there’s a safe bet that most will say the Jordan 3, and specifically the “Black Cement” colorway. Initially released in 1988, the “Black Cement” Jordan 3 was on the feet during many of Jordan’s iconic moments, most notably that year’s All-Star game. Fast forward thirty-six years, and the shoe has taken on a new legacy as one of the most versatile basketball shoes, having crossed over from strict basketball to a casual streetwear icon.
Black tumbled leather covers the shoe’s uppers, with hints of grey on the collar and under the shoe’s eyelets. The trademark elephant print is featured around the toe drag area and back heel. The final touch is the “Nike Air” branding on the heel tab. Whether a collector, die-hard sneakerhead, or casual enthusiast, these are a must-have, and I suggest doubling up if possible.

Sporty & Rich x adidas SL 72
Sporty and Rich returns with another adidas collab, the SL 72. First arriving in 1972, the SL 72 caused a shift in how running shoes were viewed at the time. Now, the SL 72 looks to cause another paradigm shift, this time in the lifestyle world.
The “Utility Yellow” colorway replaces the 1972’s vibrant blue and yellow with more subdued shades that give the shoe a vintage look and feel. Also gone is the use of leather on the interior of the heel of the shoe. In its place is a silk-like material that adds a nice vintage touch and feels reminiscent of the silk shirts of the ’70s. Also featured in the collection are an inverse take on the “Utility Yellow” and a “Mint Rush” colorway that will immediately invoke the Charlotte Hornets colors of the 1990s.

Retail: $120
JJJJound x Asics GT-2160

Montreal design studio JJJJound has always taken a more subdued approach to their collaborations. Instead of going for something extravagant, they let the materials, colors, and the shoe’s silhouette tell the story. Things are no different with their latest trio of releases with Asics. The GT-2160 is the canvas, and JJJJound focuses on simple black, white, blue, grey, and neon colors. Reflective hits are spread across the shoe’s upper to add style and pop. While these may not immediately turn heads, they must be appreciated for their take and execution of the belief that less is truly more.

adidas Originals by Wales Bonner Fall/Winter 2024
The Adidas Samba has been on an unpredictably strong run since 2022, partly led by initial collaborations with the likes of Wales Bonner. Fashion trends don’t tend to last long, but expect the Samba to stick around a bit longer thanks to the latest installment from the house of Bonner. Two Samba silhouettes—crocodile-printed leather editions of the Wales Bonner Samba and Millenium styles—highlight the FW24 collection, which also includes a Superstar along with a well-done set of sporty apparel that sets everything off.
